Q: Why should I cook for my
companion dog?
A: Feeding your dog the most natural chemical
free diet is the best way to keep him or her
healthy and increase longevity. Chemicals,
coloring agents and preservatives not only
promote disease but they can cause allergies,
skin reactions and tax a animals immune system.
Q: How should I switch my pet to Canine or
Feline Health?
A: Switching a dog to Canine Health is usually a
simple and exciting process. Dogs love Dr.
Harvey's and there is usually no need for a
period of time for their bodies to adapt to this
new and wonderful food. Most dogs love the taste
and digest the food well. So unless your dog has
a history of digestive problems you can just make
the switch. Cats on the other hand can be more
difficult. Everyone knows that cats are
incredibly finicky, so patience in the conversion
to a natural diet is very important. Some cats
will take to the food immediately. But most of
the time it is wise to convert your companion cat
slowly. Adding small amounts of Dr. Harvey's
Feline Health to whatever you are currently
feeding and gradually increase the Feline Health
and reduce the commercial food. Cats also need
fish oil added to their diet to get enough
absorbable Vitamin A.
This process of conversion can take anywhere from
1 week to 3 months. We have found that adding
organic baby food chicken or turkey can sometimes
speed up the process.
Q: My dog has skin problems. Will Dr. Harvey's
Canine Health help?
A. We have seen dramatic changes in dogs eating
Canine Health particularly
in regards to skin problems.
Q: How long will it take to see improvement?
A: Most of our customers report improvement
within 3 weeks. Sometimes it can take up to 2
months for a condition to clear up completely. It
is important during this period to make sure you
are not adding any preservatives to your pets
diet. In other words, do not supplement with
commercial food or give treats that have
preservatives in them.
Q: How often should I feed and how much?
A. Each package of food comes with complete
instructions on how to feed your pet. The feeding
instructions are based on the size, weight and
age of your dog. Dr. Harvey's Canine Health also
takes into consideration that each dog is an
individual with individual needs Start by making
the recipe provided in the bag.
This will make one pound of finished food and
will be enough for two meals for most toy dogs or
small breeds. A medium sized dog may need one and
half times the recipe and for a large dog you may
want to double the recipe. Keep in mind that age,
weight level of activity and the dogs individual
appetite are all factors and play with the
amounts until you and your companion have
adjusted to this new way of eating.
Remember that as a dog ages cutting back on the
amounts of animal protein is a good idea. Puppies
need extra protein and we suggest adding a small
amount of cottage cheese to the food daily for
extra calcium.
Q: I thought that dogs should only eat dog food.
A. This is a myth that has been around since
commercial dog food was created. Dogs thrive on
whole natural foods, just like humans. Their
nutritional needs are specific but the added
chemicals, dyes and preservative in dog foods are
detrimental to a dog's health. The most important
thing is that the food is fresh. All living
things thrive on fresh foods. Meat kept in a
refrigerator for more than two days begins to go
bad. So how can meat in a bag or can of dog food
be good to feed your companion.
Q. Do I need to give a vitamin supplement if I am
feeding Canine Health?
Dr. Harvey's Canine Health. Contains a Whole Food
Herbal Multi-Vitamin ,so no additional
multi-vitamin is needed. It is essential to add
oil to the food as the recipe explains. Dr.
Harvey's other herbal supplements can be added to
the food for special needs, such as Formative
Years, Joint- Ease, Pregnancy , Relax and Stress
and Geriatric.
Q: Is it really worth the extra work to feed your
dog this way?
A. The work is really very minimal and the
results are more than worth it.
What wouldn't we all do to give our companion
dogs the very best. The time is actually about 10
minutes total to prepare a fresh healthy meal for
your dog and it really is very, very easy!
